“Do you mean it? All of it?”
“Of course I do, Tara. I love you. And I plan on loving you a very, very long time.”
“Well, then—” Tara eyed him mischievously, certain in her heart he was speaking the truth “—as long as it is a very, very long time then, yes! Of course, yes! I love you, too.”
In an instant Fraser was on his feet, his parted lips capturing Tara’s mouth with his own. She hungrily returned his kisses, her senses on overdrive. She felt his fingers slide through her hair, his thumbs tracing their way along her jaw. Simultaneously tender and possessive, she felt her body finally give in to the full tumultuous swing of sensations Fraser brought out in her. All of them better than she could have imagined. Her hands wove together behind his neck as she felt herself being lifted off the porch and swung around, Fraser still claiming the countless kisses she willingly gave.
Tara threw back her head and laughed with pure unadulterated joy as he opened the door with his spare hand and carried her into the house.
“Next time I do this, you’ll be in a wedding dress.”
“Next time you do this, you’ll have enjoyed much more than a thank-you kiss,” Tara whispered into his ear as she slid her legs down those well-muscled thighs to the parquet floor.
“Promise?” Fraser husked.
“Oh, you can count on it.” Her eyes twinkled back at him with a look that vowed to come good on her promise many times over before their wedding day.
Turning Tara to face the living room, Fraser wrapped his arms around her from behind. She gasped at the sight of the most beautifully decorated Christmas tree she’d ever laid eyes on. Entwining her fingers with his, she could hardly breathe as she took in the elegant décor, the ornaments reflecting the gentle glow of hundreds of delicate lights laced through the branches. If she had done it herself, she couldn’t have done it better. It was perfect. Just the idea that she would get to spend Christmas after Christmas here with Fraser brought tears to her eyes.
She felt him lean down to kiss away her tears.
“I don’t know what to say, Fraser.”
“Merry Christmas, Mrs. Almost-MacKenzie.”
“Well, my love, a very merry Christmas to you.”
